Here is Chico our Longhorn Bull at daybreak. I think Dad took this picture, but I liked it.
Here is Bessie, who was put out to pasture with the big cows, and is a little upset with the lack of attention she gets now, though it is much, much more than any of the other cows get. Spoiled brat.
Here is my attempt at a compost bin. It isn't finished, I have more plans. I don't know a thing about composting, so I just guessed and hoped for the best. Any tips, BloggerLand?? The hay is from under the rabbit hutches, and I am just putting kitchen scraps in it minus any protien items. I turn it once a day, and it looks okay, I guess. But again, I have no idea.

Nice pictures of the cattle and sunrise. I've been playing with composting for years, and have managed to produce some decent compost a few times. I've not been as devoted to stirring or keeping the piles moist as I should. Years ago, I bought a green compost tumbler bin and even if I don't roll that, consistantly, it makes nice small batches of compost. Here's one website I quickly looked at that lists good and bad ingredients to use, etc..

I know layering, moisture, some manure, black dirt or mature compost helps get the "process" going by adding organisms and then you can buy compost activator at Menards and such stores, to boost the ability of the pile to break stuff down. Anyway, it's a process and with devotion can be fun to achieve and of course good for the garden plants. (some of those cowpies such as you collected last year stirred in would be helpful! Ha!)

Keep it moist. If it smells, add more "brown" materials and less "green" (food scraps, fresh cut grass, weeds, etc.).
Nice pictures!, I unfortunately don't have much experience in composting. (sorry). I liked your post though!
